boring and busy

I’m boring. And Busy.
I’ve been looking for an apartment. And going to sketch comedy shows at Second City. And celebrating holidays. And seeing my family. Both sides of them. And watching King Kong. And travesering insane, INSANE traffic. Stupid crazy suburban Toronto holiday trafic. Trafic so bad, much of the time when we go someplace (like the mall) we end up turning around and going back home because the parking lot is ENTIRELY full and lines are too long.
Happy New Year people!

party life

I have been having a good time at the christmas parties that invariably decesend upon a judeo-christian girl, in this hemisphere, around this time every-year.
First was the Walrus office bash, where I made fun of Yale with a Harvard boy (who knows writers for the Simpsons!!!) and watched Ken Finkleman play pool in the most neurotic fashion possible. It was the party hosted by an literary and international affairs magazine I have always dreamed of attending! I also met a couple of their illustrators (and I have always admired the Walrus’ New-Yorker like support of Illustration).
I chatted with embroideress Trudie Cheng and black-ink-monster man Seth Scriver both of whom were super-nice (especially for talented arsty types who can so often be a little too-cool-for-christmas and, more specifically, me) and indulged my proffesional curiousity.
Then we headed out to the Brock Press par-tay. It was quite entertaining and nostalgic (even though a certain squirmy worm/temporary Glaswegan did not attend….loser).
Last night we watched the Charlie Brown Christmas special. As a result I feel all warm and fuzzy and christmassy, and will continue to feel that way until the season is over. Who wouldn’t?

ornamental

Hey! I wasn’t lying when I said I was off to make ornaments.
Here they are: they’re simple, sparkley and very much “me” - wood-grain mac-tack, hand-painted cut-paper, glitter glue and all!

ornament 1

These were meant to be evocative of a combination of a retro asthetic, and pretty little iced gingerbread cookies. Hence the faux paper icing on this next one.

ornament 2

ornament 4

There’s nothing cuter than cartoon ‘aminals in love!

ornament 3

My little family has yet to be represented on the tree, so I made us (boy, girl and kitty) in gingerbread form.

hip parisian girls

(please excuse my atrocious French, probably horrible spelling and wonky little characters - I do think they’d make an awesome childrens book someday though)
