sexy pinups (if you’re into typewriters)

I was out with friends, scouring the suburbs in search of a specific sample sale (that ended up being hidden away in a corporate office up a flight of stairs) when I stumbled upon a Goodwill.
And what a Goodwill it was!
I still say they are far superior to either Value Villages or Sally Anns.
I was about to give up hope, when I noticed a (mostly empty) rack that had a few interesting boxes lying on it.
One of them looked like this:

So (very intrigued at this point) I cracked it open, and found…

typewriter 02

This marvellous, little, portable typewriter! For only ten bucks!

I love mechanical things. I have wanted a typewriter for soooooo long (mostly just for decorative reasons, but also maybe for the occasional art project). I have been looking for one in a sweet pastel, but for ten bucks, I didn’t really care that it was greige.

It works too! It even came with the original manual! I just need a new ribbon (which is looking like it will be more expensive than the thing was in the first place).

If you click through the pictures you’ll find more pictures on Flickr because, well, she’s a sexy girl.
Just tell me she isn’t hot.

i love typewriters, i collect them. i currently have four. i am lusting over an Olivetti Valentine — that’s my ultimate typewriter ov all time.

  2. beth says:

Oh man! Me too! I loooooove the Valentine. My dream is to be sifting through a backwater thrift shop, and find one for cheap!
I’ve been advised not to buy it off ebay though, apparently someplace in Mexico is pumping out illegitimate reproductions.

  3. Liam says:

Pumping out illegitimate reproductions … yeah, I’ve been accused of that a few times in Mexico myself.

    SNAP!

  4. raymi says:

what the fuck is your problem with me?

  5. raymi says:

ps i find your work to be juvenile, uninspired, unoriginal and creative in the least.

  6. beth says:

Wow. That’s pretty amazingly lame. I expected more of you.
By the way, you called me creative. That’s not actually an insult.
    I’l help you out though,
    Everyone:
That should read UNcreative, ok, because she was trying to insult me, you see? Got it? Good.
I don’t like you. You don’t have to like me. We’ll both keep to our own seperate sides of the internet, and everybody’s happy.

I just got rid of 5 typewriters from my collection. The only one that is still out on the front lawn is my 1954 IBM electric that weighs about as much as a concrete sail boat and sounds like an earthquake when it gets plugged in. Other than that, I have 15 manual typewriters sitting on my bookshelf- from Olivettis, to Underwoods, to Remingtons, to Royals.

What I don’t really understand is how you could not like a person that you have never met. It seems really odd, and kind of a bad quality in a person. I used to complain to my mother about food that I had never tried and claimed that “I hated (insert scary food item here)”. Then all of a sudden I grew up and realized that I needed to have an open mind and not claim hatred as to what was unknown to me. And guess what…I love tomatoes!

  9. beth says:

I don’t hate the person, I hate the persona.
For all I know Raymi’s a very nice girl in person, but I can’t stand her blog.

  10. raymi says:

i was too angry to get my words out right but thank you for the english lesson.

  11. me says:

i just got a olivetti valentine (red) today for 48 bucks at a local vintage store… keep looking!
