rubber ducky

rubber ducky
Maeby somehow managed to find this little teensy rubber ducky. We’re not quite sure where she found it, but it is her favourite new toy.
Even as she grows up and gets bigger and bigger, she continues to be so completly adorable it is frightening. I think she’s secretly an alien in a little tiny kitten outfit.

how is it?

How’s art school Beth?
You know, the place you’ve been waiting months and months and months to attend?
Is it wonderful and amazing and inspiring and awesome?
How do you like it…?
Do you like it…?

Hrrmmm… Ummm… Well… How to go about this…
Ah…. I guess…
Nope.
It sucks.
First year sucks.
I knew that going into it, but MAN does it ever suck.
I mean, I’m doing pretty well… Actually, very well. Very, very well indeed.
But… Well, here’s an anecdote for you:
I am 24 years old.
My wittle, adorable, baby brother is 17 (though we like to tell him he’s 13).
That’s a 7 year age difference.
He just entered college this year.
So did all the people who I am am in first year with at OCAD, who are all also 17.
We had this Liberal Studies class on primitivism and exoticism and eroticism - in other words, a lot of images of nudes - but stylized ones, like Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon
Some boys sitting behind me giggled their way through the lecture. It was as though they had never seen a naked person before. And then I realized that there was a good possibility that they never had.

How exactly are these kids going to handle life drawing if they can’t even handle cartoon boobies?

completed scarf

me again

Ain’t it perty?
(Made from the raw wool seen here)
It’s kinda wonky on the edges - but that’s only because I used beautifully wonky, hand-spun, hand-dyed wool for the pretty variegated green stripes. That just means it has character and texture - and I love character and texture.

the new stuff

Back when I actually had the time to be bored this summer, I went on a hunt for new blogs to read.
I love my new finds so much, I sharing them, because they are becoming a major source of inspiration for me (when I can find the time to actually be on my computer doing something other than schoolwork).

These blogs are pure escapism. I could never hope to live the halcyon life these girls manage to create around them. I am astounded by the depth of thought that goes into the aesthetic beauty of every little domestic moment captured in images. These blogs have become my muses, inspiring me to create art from the life I live, by seeing EVERYTHING I create (from the way I make a bed - or don’t - to how I make dinner) as creative in nature.

little birds
Domestic bliss in Portland (my dream town) in saturated colours, glimpses of nature and carefully chosen vintage prints.

a bird in the hand
The literal sister site to little birds (no really, it’s her sister). Just as much about vintage finds, but more about pastel colours and collaged art pieces, and life in San Francisco (a very nice city indeed).

oh joy
How this blogger finds all these beautiful things everyday, I’ll never know. But there’s a wealth of links here to all things design and feminine (especially cute jewellery, fashion, home decor, stationary, party planning and weddings). And it’s all sooooo delightfully girly.

everybody likes sandwiches
I love cooking, and I love food, but I’ve had a hard time finding a food blog that actually offers me something new, and captures my attention.
This one does.
The food is simple, but beautifully captured, and imaginative - and the blog is well written to boot. It’s like an elegant cookbook in blog form! I especially like the focus on fresh in season ingrediants, and things that are relatively healthy.
