yellow

sandy sandals

Things have been fairly hopping around here, I guess you could say. There has been camping, weddings (that’s weddings plural) birthdays (also plural - including Liams - I made him beef tenderloin with garlicy seafood studded linguine and high/british/cream tea with homemade cranberry scones for desert) and now there are four cats in one small apartment to chase after.

Plus, there’s the current yellow obsession. Deep, egg yolky, rich yellow. A colour I always hated, but am currently working into my wardrobe. I know it’s kinda the current trend - heck I even designed a wedding invitation incorporating it, but I’m enjoying it.

Those photogenic Saltwater Sandals up there could not come highly recommended enough. I may have bought them for their shiny yellowness, but they have more than proved themselves. They stand up to water, sand, mud, pavement, torrential British rains, sheep, pine tar and my sensitive (blister prone) feet. Throw out your damn crocs already! They are ugly! These are cute!

hey, wait!

I almost forgot: this weekend is the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and it’s FREE, and you should come.

I am definitely going on the Saturday, possibly the Friday night if I am given a good reason to (like friends being there). Can’t make it on the Sunday though, which kinda sucks as it’s usually the better day (less crowd=less gawkers and fanboy) but I kinda have to go to the wedding I designed the invitation for… Yeah, that’s definitely something I kinda sorta have to do.

Katie, Joe, Travis I’m totally looking in your direction here… Maybe I’ll even feed you afterwards?

throw fonts

Even though I’m into things like Japanese dolls with huge eyes, and vintage tablecloths, I like to macho things up a bit every now and again. It keeps the boys from gagging when they enter my abode. (In fact, most boys who’ve visited quite like my apartment. Lots to look at. Comfy couch. Big TV. Video games. DVDs. Books. Don’t need anything else really).

If I were cooler than I am (which I think at this point has entirely to do with the disposability of my income - sick cats sucking up much of the funds with which would otherwise be spent on fine millinery and antique paperweights) I would cover my house in the wonderful typographic throw pillows I’ve been coming across lately.

They can be found here (in swirly titling script)

and here (in a deco sans)

and here (in a classic serif)

and here (in a a chunky mid-century serif)

Alas, they are pretty much all out of my price range. If I purchased one of each, the sum total would probably otherwise pay for a turquoise LeCreuset pot, or conversely, a used X-Box 360 - both of which are slightly more desired in this household at the moment - and that seems silly when I can throw together a throw in a couple hours with some two dollar thrift store fabric and a five dollar pillow form.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that I could whip something altogether less expensive up, by myself, if I simply procured a silkscreen and some cheap muslin….

new victorian

the classy

Hmmm. I guess I’m a new victorian then. Kinda sucks to be pigeon-holed at such a young age.

Also, if you have Facebook, I have pictures of England up at there at the moment. They will find their way here (with full commentary) eventually though.
